Off Necker Island

On the inflatable after poking around Richard Branson's island in the background. His 40,000 ft house is the "peak" of the island you can see just to the right of Susan's head. Jon Goldweitz took this picture---another benefit of having Jon and his wife Dorothy down for the week.

Before

After

This shows the new lower deck, which is now done in reinforced concrete and granite, so maybe it's now a terrace?

Now we need to demolish the upper deck and replace it with a larger one that is covered on all sides of the house. The new deck will extend two feet beyond the stone columns in this picture.

Progress

New stonework and stairway to the dock have been completed. The stone is local granite and workmanship is first rate.

Lunch at the Mad Dog

Susan's sister and her husband Doug with me on the porch of the Mad Dog---the perfect little Caribbean shack with four items on the menu, but lots of beer choices.

This was our last full-week trip for the season. From now through the summer there will only be time for a few quick trips to check on the progress of our construction.

The stone is local. A very warm colored granite.

Polly & Ed on the dock

Polly and Ed Trott visited in March and quickly adapted to island living. More into walking than most guests so far, the four of us hiked to the top of the island at 1,350 feet (from a road at the 800 foot level) and also to the top of a hill at Biras Creek. That one was about 400 feet, but we started 0ur walk at sea level. Polly and Ed scored very high on our proprietary house guest grading system.
